Litecoin (LTC)
Litecoin was created in 2011 by Charlie Lee as a lighter and faster alternative to Bitcoin. It uses the Scrypt mining algorithm instead of SHA-256, produces blocks every 2.5 minutes, and has a supply cap of 84 million coins. Litecoin was one of the first altcoins and has served as a testing ground for features later adopted by Bitcoin.
